Bulging Disc Exercises are a very important part of any healing program. In fact, without them complete healing can never occur. This article will discuss two of the best exercises you can do for this condition.
Before we discuss the specific exercises, though, you have to understand that there are two major problems you face when trying to heal a bulging disc.
First, the discs of the spine do not receive a very good blood supply. This is a major problem because your body depends on blood to transport oxygen and nutrients to an injury so it can heal more quickly. Blood also cleans up the damaged tissues and removes toxins from the area, which speeds the healing process.
The second problem is that the small muscles that surround the spine will become weaker because of pressure on the nerves from the bulging disc. These muscles are very important for maintaining a healthy posture, as well as proper alignment of the bones.
With that said, the first exercise I’ll teach you will address the first issue of blood flow. All you need to do is to use a therapy ball (one of those large balls you see in health clubs or physical therapy clinics), sit on the ball and gently bounce up and down for 5 minutes a day.
This exercise may sound silly, but the discs are very interesting because what they do is store oxygen and nutrients within the center of the disc since there isn’t much blood flow.
The only way you can replenish this oxygen and nutrients is by physically pumping the disc, and that’s what this exercise does. This exercise is good for you no matter where your disc problem is (the neck, upper back, or low back), because it will pump every disc in the spine.
The second exercise addresses the second issue of muscle weakness. This exercise requires the use of a mini-trampoline, which you can find at any sports store. All you do is stand on the trampoline and march in place for 5 minutes a day.
Do not jump or bounce on the trampoline – a simple march is all you need to do. This exercise forces you to balance, which will re-strengthen these muscles. Another benefit to this is that, when the muscles become stronger, they support the disc which helps it heal more quickly.

Those yoga balls are great. You mention using a trampoline to strengthen your core…sitting on the yoga balls for prolonged time does the same thing…and encourages good posture. Just be aware that it will fatigue you after a time. Don’t try to sit on the ball all day long.

I really appreciate your efforts in providing such useful information on bulging disc exercises. As suggested by you the exercise with the use of a therapy ball sounds simple as well as effective. I have many times seen these large balls in the physical therapy clinics but never knew it can be so easy to do it in just 5 minutes.
